Sue Murray Feb 01 Announcements

KnowledgeVision Systems, Inc. (KVSI) is excited to announce our latest release of our application, KVStudio ‘eLearning’, Version 4.1.  The key feature included in this release comes directly from your product feedback and from our commitment to steadily increase and enhance the functionality for our customers.

This release allows you to create KVPresentations that are now SCORM-compliant.  SCORM stands for Shareable Content Object Reference Model.  It defines an industry-specific way of constructing training content so that it works well with other SCORM conformant systems. For KVStudio Version 4.1, this means that any presentations you create, now meet the SCORM e-Learning standards, and can be easily added to most Learning Management System (LMS) as courses or training units.  If this is something you would be interested in being able to do, just send us a brief ticket to our support center, and we’ll turn this option on for you immediately at no additional cost.

Attached below is a copy of our V4.1 Release Notes which provides additional information about our SCORM-compliance.

Hi All,

Version 4.0.11 was released today and made available for everyone's use.  Below are the release notes outlining what was included in this release:

KnowledgeVision Systems (KVS) is pleased to announce our latest incremental release of KVStudio – Version 4.0.11.   The key features included in this release come directly from your product feedback and from our commitment to steadily increase and enhance the functionality for our customers.   There are 3 updates described and outlined below.  However, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please feel free to reach out to us.  You can contact us at support@knowledgevision.com, call us at 1-855-587-8834, or click on the ‘Support’ button on our KnowledgeVision website (www.knowledgevision.com) .

The areas of functionality included in Release 4.0.11 are:

  1. Publish Options – In Step 4: Publish
  2. Full-Screen Option is available in the Synchronization Step
  3. Record Slide Timings Only Option Has Been Added

A.  Publish Options – In Step 4: Publish

In Step 4: Publish in the prior version (version 4.0.10), you would need to click on the ‘Publish Options’ button to open up and see the 4 additional configuration tabs.  With the new Version 4.0.11, when you click on Step 4: Publish, you will now see all 4 configuration tabs immediately available; the extra step of clicking on the ‘Publish Options’ toggle button has been removed.  There are still four tabs:

  • Publish Options
  • Configure Publish Settings
  • Presentation Metadata
  • Add Attachments

Configure Publish Settings, Presentation Metadata and Add Attachments have not had any changes made to them in this release.  But we have added enhancements to the first tab, Publish Options in Version 4.0.11.  Specifically this includes:

  • The URL text Field that existed below the template name has been removed
  • There are new buttons for selecting, previewing and refreshing your template; all designed to make it easier and more intuitive to assign a template to your presentation
  • The ‘Properties’ and ‘Values’ area for templates has been simplified (we removed one column labeled components which wasn’t necessary to view).  We also added text to help clarify values in selected properties to add more descriptive information to aid the personalization of templates.

B.  Full-Screen Option in Step 3: Synchronize

We had removed the Full-Screen Option in Step 3: Synchronize when we released Version 4.0.  However, due to popular demand we have now added this option back in to Step 3: Synchronize.  Now when you are in Step 3, when you hover over the slide panel area, you will see the ‘full-screen icon’ appear as a potential option.  You have the ability to click on this before, or during the synchronization process to get a full-screen visual of the slides in your slide deck.  This can be particularly effective when you are recording from your webcam, and want to have full screen images of your slides to speak to during the recording process.

C.  Record Slide Timings Only Option in Step 2: Select Videos

Within Step 2: Select Videos, under the ‘Select Another Option’ area, we can turn on for your account, another option called ‘Record Slide Timings Only’.  If you would like this enabled for your account, just send a quick email to support@knowledgevision.com and we can activate this for you.

This function could be useful to you in a situation where a presentation was being recorded to video, but you wanted to also capture the slide synchronization at the same time in KVStudio. You would open up a new project, select your PowerPoint slides, and select  ‘Record Slide Timings Only’ option in Step 2. You would then progress to Step 3: Synchronize and when the speaker starts, you would press Next Slide when each slide changes.  When you are done, all of the synchronization marks are already placed in your project, so the presentation doesn’t need to be separately synchronized when you get the final video recording back.  Next you would Save your project, essentially without the ‘final’ video but with the cue points retained.  Then, when the video is completed and uploaded into KVStudio, you would re-open your saved project, replace the video in Step 2:, and all of your cue points you did previously would remain intact.

Another situation where this option could be effective is when the video producer wants to put images of the slides themselves into a TelePrompter, so that the slide images appear directly over the camera lens.  This allows the presenter to look right into the camera lens and see the images of the slides, as well as a thumbnail of the next slide.  In this case, the camera is started, and the Synchronize button is pressed simultaneously, and all of the slide changes are recorded directly into the KVStudio project you are working on.  As in the first case, the presentation does not then have to be re-synchronized in KVStudio when you are given the final video.

Feedback

We are continuing on a regular basis (e.g., approximately every 6-8 weeks) to add incremental features, functions and fixes to Version 4.0 of KVStudio.  We are not making any of these changes to any release prior to KVStudio 4.0. If you are running a version of KVStudio prior to Version 4.0, (which was released in November 2011) it is important that you upgrade to Version 4.0.

We would love to hear your feedback, and to answer any questions you have on any of the new release information.  Please feel free to contact us by emailing support@knowledgevision.com, or call us at 1-855-587-8834, or click on the ‘Support’ link in the top right corner of the KnowledgeVision website.

Release 4.0.8 has been released today, November 3, 2011.  For customers currently utilizing Version 3.7, you will notice a new user interface has been developed for KVStudio.  The new interface was designed to give KVStudio a fresh, new look, and to increase the user friendliness and intuitiveness for KVStudio users.   Instead of the top 3 tabs of 'Manage Content, Synchronize Slideshow and Publish Presentation, there are now 5 tabs across the top labeled:

  • Step 1:  Select Slides
  • Step 2:  Select Video
  • Step 3:  Synchronize
  • Step 4:  Publish
  • Step 5:  Share

One of the other changes you will notice is that a Template is assigned to a presentation under the Step 4: Publish tab, specifically in the 'Publishing Options' button on Step 4.  In Version 3.x, templates were selected in the Manage Content area.

Similarly, Attachments to your presentation were added to your project in the Manage Content function in Version 3.x.  In the new version, Attachments are added in Step 4: Publish.

The attached KVStudio Version 4.0 User Guide provides a good reference tool for you to use if you would like to look up how certain functions in KVStudio work within the new 4.0 release.  Additionally, there are video tutorials embedded right into the Home Page of KVStudio when you log in to Version 4 that provide quick tips and techniques on navigating with Version 4.0

We would love to hear any feedback, comments or questions that you have on the new version, so please feel free to send me an email at sue@knowledgevision.com at any time!

Thanks!

Hello everyone,

This is a message for certain customers of KVStudio who meet the following specific conditions:

  1. Have published a presentation (that includes image slides such as JPEGS or PNGS) before 5/1/11 and are specifically using the embed code on a website or web landing page since 5/1/11
  2. Have recently upgraded to Version 3.7 of KVStudio (which was made available on 9/1/11)
  3. Want to re-publish that same presentation (for the first time since 5/1/11) under KVStudio Version 3.7 and still have it embedded on their website or landing page
We recommend that if you meet the 3 conditions above, that you take the new embed code generated from Step 3, and update your website/landing page with this new embed code.  Meaning, you will need to replace the original embed code logic from before 5/1/11 and replace it with the new embed code logic from publishing it under Version 3.7.

This recommendation only applies in cases where the embed code is being used - there is no impact if you are using the URL link for sharing your published presentations.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to send me an email at:  sue@knowledgevision.com

Thanks!
Sue Murray
